This is totally shocking! In 2002, according to this news clip, Washington, D.C. had as high a rate of HIV infections as the countries of Nigeria or Uganda!

Unfortunately the HIV/AIDS epidemic continues to worsen in the US in African Americans and few are paying it much attention. As a health care provider in the rural Deep South, this region of the country is the fastest growing area of HIV rates. I have written a book aimed at leadership in the Black Church to try to educate and empower the church to become more involved. I fear that waiting on the government, media, or others to address the issue will be too late.
